Consultation on plans for new homes at Little Belhus Close
February - March 2024
Thurrock Council is currently exploring the potential to build a small number of high-quality homes at Little Belhus Close to help meet local demand and enhance the area.
We believe everyone should have a good quality home. Across the borough, around 1,200 new homes need to be built every year to meet current demand.

Building three new homes at Little Belhus Close would provide much needed housing in the local area and help to enhance the neighbourhood.
These plans are still at an early stage and we want to hear your views on our initial ideas. This current consultation will introduce our plans and ask for your views and suggestions. The feedback we receive will then be considered as the proposals are developed further. Ultimately, should these ideas progress to a planning application, a report will be submitted as part of the application which explains how consultation feedback has influenced and shaped the development of the proposals.

The site and proposed new homes
As shown on the map below, the proposed homes would be located on a council-owned garage site at Little Belhus Close, South Ockendon.

This site offers a great opportunity to deliver new homes. At present, it is occupied by underused garages and suffers from anti-social behaviour. We want to put it to better use to help serve the local community. The site is also sustainably located given its close proximity to a range of shops, schools, community facilities and public transport links.
Our proposals seek to redevelop the site to deliver a total of three new three-bedroom homes. All of the new homes would be owned and managed by Thurrock Council to provide high-quality, affordable homes for residents who already live in Thurrock.
The traditional design of the proposed homes would ensure that they are in keeping with existing properties in the surrounding area, while our fabric first approach would ensure they are sustainable and energy efficient.
Six resident parking spaces are proposed for the development, meaning that there is provision for two spaces per home. Additionally, one visitor parking space and dedicated cycle storage would be provided on site.

The proposals offer a great opportunity to improve the external environment at Little Belhus Close. As part of our plans, we are looking to provide new green space, trees and planting, which would help to improve the overall look and feel of the area.
Get involved
We want to talk to existing residents at an early stage to inform the direction of our plans. This current consultation will run for four weeks until 18 March 2024.
