Petition to:
Formally request that the Council review the current parking layout in our section of the road and consider improvements to better serve the needs of local residents. The current parking arrangement presents ongoing access difficulties for the properties located at the end of Orchard Close. In particular, the position of the existing disabled parking bay restricts practical vehicle access to the front patio areas of neighbouring homes, limiting residents’ ability to safely use their frontage for off-street parking. We respectfully ask the Council to consider the following:
1. Extension of the parking crossover / frontage access area - an extension of the existing dropped kerb and parking access would allow residents to safely access the front patio areas of their properties and create more efficient use of available space. 2. Relocation of the existing disabled parking bay - we fully support the continued provision of disabled parking within Orchard Close. However, relocating the current bay slightly would maintain accessibility for disabled users, while preventing obstruction of residential access to the properties at the end of the close. We believe these adjustments would deliver several wider community benefits including:
Improving safe access for residents and visitors
Reducing vehicle congestion within the cul-de-sac
Improving visibility and manoeuvrability for vehicles
Supporting safer pedestrian movement
Making it possible for residents to install home electric vehicle charging points
Importantly, access to off-street parking would enable residents to charge electric vehicles from their own properties, supporting both the Council’s sustainability objectives and the wider transition toward lower-emission transport. Given the increasing importance of residential EV charging infrastructure, we feel this proposal would provide a practical long-term improvement for the neighbourhood while preserving appropriate disabled parking provision.
We would be grateful if the Council could arrange for a highways officer to inspect the site and advise whether this proposal can be considered under current parking and highway regulations. Thank you for your time and consideration of this request. We look forward to your response.
