Help shape our plans for Broxburn Drive
Consultation on detailed proposals for new homes and estate improvements
View of one of the proposed infill buildings at the front of Broxburn Drive.Thurrock Council has been exploring options to build new homes at Broxburn Drive and improve the overall appearance of the area.
We believe everyone should have a good quality home. Across the borough, around 1,200 new homes need to be built every year just to meet current demand. As a council, we are committed to building high quality new homes, including investing in new council homes.
Last September, we shared our early stage proposals to build between 30 and 40 new homes in up to seven new buildings at Broxburn Drive. Since then, we have reflected on the feedback we received, and we are now ready to present our more detailed plans to local residents. This latest phase of consultation will run until 12 September 2022.

Our updated plans
Our updated proposals for Broxburn Drive include building 33 new council homes within six new buildings, ranging in height from one to four storeys. The new buildings have been designed to be sensitive to neighbouring properties and in keeping with the character of the area. All of the 33 new homes would be apartments, ranging in size from one-bedroom to three-bedroom properties, and would owned and managed by Thurrock Council to provide new, high quality council homes for residents who live in Thurrock.
Three of the new buildings would be located at the rear of the northern end of Broxburn Drive, in place of some of the existing garages and car parking areas. While some of the existing car parking would be removed, some new car parking spaces would be re-provided. This means that there would be a total of 192 car parking spaces provided for the 171 homes at Broxburn Drive – both new and existing. Our plans also include 33 cycle parking spaces for residents and 33 visitor spaces.
Wider improvements
In response to the feedback we received from local residents during the last round of consultation, our team have made it a key priority to deliver wider improvements to the existing environment at Broxburn Drive. Having taken on board what you told us, our proposals include:
- providing more areas for children to play, using robust and natural play elements (such as logs, boulders and stepping stones) rather than traditional play equipment
- making it easier to walk around Broxburn Drive by creating new footpaths and providing more seating
- helping to create a more open and greener feel to Broxburn Drive, by removing or lowering some of the tall brick walls enclosing the courtyards and replacing some of these with hedging
- creating new green spaces in between the new buildings, some to provide wildlife-friendly areas and some for adults and children to enjoy
- refreshing the planting within some of the existing courtyards, with small trees and shrub planting
You can see a selection of plans and images by opening the documents in the Documents Library (on the right hand side).
