Improving cycling parking
Consultation has concluded
The Funding
Thurrock Council has been awarded £305,000 in government funding to improve cycle parking across the borough. This is part of the Active Travel Fund (ATF), a government funding given to Local Authorities to improve cycling and walking facilities for the benefit of local communities.
Cycle parking is an important factor in choosing to cycle and we want to make sure the funding is used to deliver high-quality cycle parking that serves your needs and makes cycling a more attractive travel option.
The Plan
The proposals are split into three categories of cycle parking:
- Railway stations - Secure cycle parking compounds ideal for all-day use
- High Streets and Local Shops - Convenient and versatile cycle parking to fit short stays
- Leisure, recreation and cultural centres - Sheltered cycle parking suiting various parking periods
Each of these categories serves a particular purpose and proposals must suit the needs its users and the characteristics of each location.
Your say
The following survey will help us understand your needs and concerns about cycle parking and will give you the opportunity to help shape the proposal for each of the three categories. You can also use the interactive map to see the areas we are looking into making improvements and drop a pin to make suggestions. Your views are important to us, and they will be considered for the final proposals.
Final proposals will also have to meet specific criteria. These include:
- following the latest government guidance issued on GOV.UK: Cycle Infrastructure Design (LTN 1/20)
- considering the needs of all users throughout the process
- being supported by local authority leaders
