Health Inequalities Fund 2023

Applying for a grant
The Health Inequalities Fund 2023 supports projects and initiatives that make a positive difference to health inequalities and the wider factors affecting health in your local area or community.
When we talk about health inequalities, we mean differences in health outcomes between different groups. Some of these differences can be reduced through avoiding unhealthy behaviours and choosing healthy ones. We want it to make it easier to make healthier choices.
Health inequalities grants will be awarded to support local ideas that create community opportunities for improved health and wellbeing, especially ideas that are likely to reduce difference in health outcomes.
We want to hear how funding can help make a difference and improve health equality for the group you are involved with.
Who can apply?
We welcome applications from voluntary sector organisations, community groups, faith groups and social enterprise organisations – together known as the 'third sector'. If you are active in Thurrock and can use this fund to improve health inequalities in response to local voices, then we want to hear from you!
The application form will ask you to confirm that your organisation:
- will be able to spend any grant awarded and/or demonstrate the project's impact within one year of the funds being awarded
- has a governing document, articles of association or constitution
- has a bank account with at least two unrelated signatories
- has a safeguarding policy in place
- has an equality policy in place
If for any reason you are unable to confirm one or more of these, please email our Strengthening Communities team at community@thurrock.gov.uk before applying.
The closing dates for applications for any funding is 24 September 2023.
Funding available
You can apply for grants from the following budgets:
- Micro-grant – we welcome applications for grants of between £500 and £1,500
- U Choose – we welcome expressions of interest for grants of between £1,500 and £6,000 to support third sector projects that will be provided in Chadwell St Mary, East Tilbury and Tilbury
Micro-grant applications will be considered by a panel with decisions in October 2023.
In the autumn 2023, we will invite U Choose applicants to present their ideas so members of the community can consider them and vote for their preferences through a simple voting system.
