As a local authority, it is important that Thurrock Council has a strategy that shares the aims and ambitions of the organisation and residents of the borough regarding housing in the local area.

We are developing a new Housing Strategy and wish to engage widely.

This will help to ensure that we reflect the range of priorities from residents and diverse groups and organisations across the borough, using this feedback as the foundation for the new strategy.

The new Housing Strategy will also take into consideration:

  • opportunities for meeting the housing needs of Thurrock’s residents
  • the welfare and benefit system

The new Housing Strategy will also take into consideration:

  • opportunities for meeting the housing needs of Thurrock’s residents
  • the welfare and benefit system
  • the housing market in Thurrock
  • legislation and regulation

It is also important that the strategy addresses the impact and uncertainty resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Housing Strategy will cover the range of accommodation options available in Thurrock - social housing, owner-occupiers and the private rental sector.

The Housing Strategy looks at the need for housing in the borough and the barriers residents may face with accessing safe and secure accommodation, rather than considering or analysing options or sites for specific housing development.
