Thurrock’s Health and Wellbeing Strategy sets the long-term direction for how we work together to improve health, reduce inequalities, and support people to live healthier lives. Our current strategy (2022–2026) set out a bold ambition to “Level the Playing Field” by tackling the wider determinants of health – such as housing, education, employment and community safety. While this has led to important progress, Thurrock continues to face significant and evolving challenges, alongside new opportunities for change.

We are now developing a refreshed Health & Wellbeing Strategy for 2026–2029 to respond to these realities. Growing population pressures, persistent health inequalities, the lasting impact of COVID-19, and rising demand on services mean we must do things differently. The new strategy focuses on prevention, collaboration and recognising the strengths of our communities. It aims to align with national and regional priorities, including integrated care, neighbourhood health, and the changes and opportunities arising from Local Government Reorganisation.

Our draft priorities have been shaped by local data, shifting national and regional priorities, and extensive engagement with partners. However, these priorities are not fixed. This consultation is a vital next step, giving residents a genuine opportunity to influence the direction of the strategy. Your feedback will help test whether we have the right priorities, identify gaps, and ensure the final strategy is shaped by the needs, strengths and ambitions of the people who live and work in Thurrock.
