Making Walking and Cycling Better in Thurrock
We want to improve walking and cycling journeys within the borough and beyond.
The government is investing £2billion across the UK to make walking and cycling better, safer and the preferred way of making local journeys. We would like you to tell us where improvements are needed in Thurrock to help you walk more often and feel safer cycling.

The government is investing £2billion across the UK to make walking and cycling better, safer and the preferred way of making local journeys. We would like you to tell us where improvements are needed in Thurrock to help you walk more often and feel safer cycling.
For example, you might want a new crossing on a busy road, or a new safe route to help children get to school, or a new path to help you get to work. You can tell us about the little things too, such as extra signs on footpaths that are hard to find, more cycle parking, more benches to help you rest while on a walk, or new locations for bus stops.
As well as residents, we would like to hear from local businesses, and those who come to the borough to visit or work.
Your views are important as they will help us show the government where funding is most needed for Thurrock.
This consultation will stay open for several months so you can share new ideas whenever they come to mind. We want to build a long-list of plans that we can start work on as soon as funding is available.
There are two ways you can tell us how and where we should make improvements.
The first is an online map of Thurrock, on which you can drag-and-drop different types of markers to show exactly where attention is needed. Once you've put a marker on the map, you can tell us what improvement is needed there, or your comments about that location. You can use whichever type of marker fits best with your views.
Secondly, you can use the 'Ideas' option to tell us your views on how we could encourage more people to walk or cycle. These can be very specific ideas, problems and solutions, or more general thoughts. If you can help us improve walking and cycling in Thurrock, we want to hear from you.
Lastly, please fill-in our short survey form. This will help us understand more about residents, workers, employers and visitors who would like to see improvements around the borough.
If you have difficulties with this consultation or want to tell us about anything else related to transport, please use the email address and contact details on this page.
Thank you for all your ideas for making Thurrock a more enjoyable place for you, your loved ones, friends or staff to walk and cycle safely.

Walking and Cycling Ideas
over 3 years agoPlease tell us your ideas and suggestions to support walking and cycling across the borough. You can also like or comment on other people's ideas. They can be specific to a location, or across the borough. If one comes to mind, please let us know.
MKOT82about 3 years agoWe need to do the cycling and walking paths like they are in Holland. Anything else is just not enough.
I think we need to plan and build the walking and cycling path in a way that in the future they can be connected with other ones creating networks. I thing that shared cycling and walking paths are a waist of time. We need to have a look on how this was solved in Holland and take they ideas to reduce car traffic and increase cycling and walking habits. If we think that another pedestrian crossing or cycling route from residential area to local Macdonald will solve the problem then we better give the money to the poor or charity.

Ship lane from Lakeside starts off with a good cycle path which then fizzles to almost non existent approaching Aveley. The pavement becomes to narrow to admit a wheelchair user comfortably and safely.
0 comment1Boliverover 3 years agoSecure cycle storage in town centres
Some towns provide, free or small cost e.g. Swindon an indoor secure cycle store - this would encourage cycling into town centres.
0 comment3J357about 1 year agoA safer cycle path from Grays to Lakeisde, which isn’t on the main road.
0 comment1patecatliover 3 years agoRaised Crossing Points and Continuous Footpaths
Footpaths should be continuous with all road crossings raised so that pedestrians are not having to step down into the road. This would have the added benefit of slowing down vehicle traffic on approach to junctions/crossings, would make it easier for those with reduced mobility/people with young children in prams/buggies to walk around the borough.
